THOUGHTS ON BENOIT FAMILY TRAGEDY

The professional wrestling industry is filled with countless shocking moments both in and out of the squared circle, but the Benoit family tragedy appears to be "the one" that will rock the entire industry for a long time to come.

While full details haven't been released, it appears that Chris Benoit murdered his wife Nancy (the former Woman/Nancy Sullivan) and seven year old son Daniel, later killing himself in the family home.  What could be unanswerable questions will be asked forever.  What made Benoit snap?  Was it a crime of passion?  Was Benoit suffering from some sort of emotional illness (which is no different than suffering from other forms of disease)?  Is there more than meets the eye as to what's been reported so far?  Some fans are sad one of their favorite stars died, remembering his "work rate" and such.  None of that is important in the grand scheme of things.

Nancy Sullivan was friendly and familiar with several members of the MWF family over the years from when she was married to Kevin Sullivan.  The Jackal had a chance to spend a lot of time with her over the years.  Her contributions to our great sport should not be forgotten, as she was one of the finest managers/valets of the 1990's.  Our thoughts also go out to her ex-husband Kevin.

The saddest part of this story is the murder of a seven year old.  Hopefully he was unaware of what was going on and that his final moments on earth weren't being terrified of his father attempting to end his life.

Even more than the deaths of Owen Hart and Eddie Guerrero, the Benoit family tragedy could have a spotlight cast on this sport that it does not want.
